Counselling and support services
Many government and non-government agencies in Australia offer free counselling, relationship support, crisis support, mental health, domestic violence and suicide prevention services. International students can access these services by phone, email, web chat, online forums and other sources of information. In addition, you can choose to remain anonymous while accessing these services. Here are some of the support services you can access
International Student Hotline
If international students are facing issues related to safety, study, work or accommodation, they can call anytime. The Commonwealth Department of Education operates this student helpline in Australia. You do not have to reveal your identity when calling this number.
Beyond Blue
it offers 24-hour support for mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and suicide. You can access this service via email, web chat or by filling in the online forum on the website.
Child Helpline
This helpline is for students (aged between 5 and 25 years) who have personal relationship problems and want to share their feelings about their studies.
Sexual Assault Counselling Service
This service is available to anyone who has experienced sexual assault. It is a free, 24 hours day, 7 days-a-week telephone service. You can call one of the state-based sexual assault counselling services for support. At the same time, you can choose to remain anonymous. Many of these services also have links to government health departments and hospitals and can help if an assault has injured you.
Poison Information Centre
This support center provides guidance on the use, management and treatment of toxic products, including industrial chemicals, over-the-counter medicines, industrial chemicals, household chemicals, and plant and animal poisons.
Tuition Fee Protection Service
Introduced by the Australian Government to assist international students in the event that an education provider is unable to offer a course, we ensure that international students can study another course at the same or another institution, or they can receive a refund for unspent tuition fees.
